What is My Purpose
Many of us have often wondered what our purpose is as a Christian. In truth, it is not a question that is foreign to any of us, regardless of our religious standing. Perhaps in some cases, it is one of the deepest questions asked by someone entering adulthood. We ask ourselves, “What is my purpose? Why am I here?”
The life of a Christian is no different. We start out this life as a young believer, an infant if you will. We seek the pure milk of the Word. Yet at some point, we all must grow and seek more substantial spiritual food, along with a deeper understanding of what our purpose is as a disciple of Christ. We must ask ourselves, and God, what our purpose is for being a Christian. What is our purpose now after being born again?
In truth, there are those among us who struggle with this very question. We ask ourselves, “God, what do you want me to do as one of your children?” “What are Your plans for me now that I am a Christian?”
These are questions that everyone who is growing in the Lord will ask themselves at some point. They are questions that need answers. Questions that will provide us with direction and a purpose. Questions that will help us grow as a Christian.
Paul tells us in Romans 8:28-30, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”
Each of us have been called by God to embrace His Son Jesus, therefore, each of us has a purpose that is ordained by God. The foundation for achieving our purpose is that we allow ourselves to be conformed into the image of Jesus. As this change within us evolves, we find ourselves faced with choices that provide us with opportunities for God’s love and glory to shine. It is these opportunities that guide us in defining our purpose as disciples of Christ.
The reason why every Christian is a Christian is quite simple, yet extremely profound. We must be willing to become less of who we are in order to become more of who Jesus is. We must be willing to seek the guidance and correction of the Holy Spirit throughout our day so that the Fruit of the Spirit becomes more evident to those we encounter.
Let our prayers today reach the ears of our Holy Father as we ask Him to conform us into the likeness of His Holy Son.
The truth is that the only way to reach our full potential as Christians is to allow the Holy Spirit to conform our thoughts into the mind of Christ. We must welcome the opportunities to live as Jesus would so that our Lord will then live through us. Our purpose for being a Christian is clear. We are to bring glory to God each day as we transform ourselves into the likeness of His Son.
