The Seeds We Plant

There are so many verses found in the Bible that will reach out and capture our soul. So many verses filled with so much promise. Each chapter that we read, and every verse that we memorize becomes a wonderful seed that is planted deep in our heart. During a time of need, the Holy Spirit will then use those seeds to bring to our memories a particular verse or a familiar passage. Each is a promise that we can hold on to and gain strength from, to confront whatever challenge we are facing.

One particular verse we will look at today is found in Isaiah 43:2. We read God’s comforting words spoken through the prophet where he says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Just think about what that verse is telling us. No matter what we may be going through, God is always right there beside us, watching over us, helping us go through whatever it is we are facing. God is not saying that He will take away every one of life’s challenges. What He is saying is that we will not have to face every struggle and hardship alone.

Honestly, sometimes it does feel like we are facing our struggles alone, but the truth is that God is always there beside us, encouraging us, guiding our steps and calming our thoughts. Our part is to have faith and believe. We must engage our faith during these times to believe that God is with us. We must believe that He is there, giving us His strength whenever we are too weak to go on. We must have faith “that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

When we pray today, let us lay all of our fears, all of our concerns and all of our hopes at the feet of our Heavenly Father. Let us acknowledge our frailties and our failures, and let us declare that through it all, our faith, our hope and our trust in God continually grows deeper and steadily moves closer to our Lord, whom we gladly serve.

Many of us have familiar verses of scripture that we hold on to as we walk this path called life. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring a verse of scripture to our mind right now. Ask for a verse that will help us stay focused on the things of God. The first verse that comes to mind is our verse for the day. Meditate on it. Ask the Holy Spirit to grant us a fuller understanding of its meaning. Now go take on the day.
