The Faithfulness of God
Have we ever thought about the faithfulness of God? Think about it for a moment. God has always been and He will always be. He created all of creation and gave life to the first man and woman. He made promises to them that continue on to this very day. He created a people of millions from a promise made to one elderly couple. He was faithful to keep the covenants He made with Noah, Abraham, Israel and David and He is faithfully keeping the newest one He made to all of us through the life of Jesus. Scripture is filled with the promises of God to do great things and history attests to the fulfillments of those promises.
God is faithful. He is God and He does not change. He is faithful to walk with us on whatever path we are on. He is faithful to guide us onto the path of His choosing and He is faithful to provide for our needs along the way. He is faithful to teach us His ways and sanctify our lives if we are willing to listen and follow what we are taught. He is faithful to forgive us and shower us with His grace and mercy, even though we do not deserve it.
We are reminded of God’s faithfulness in Deuteronomy 7:9 where it says, “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.”
We take comfort in His faithfulness as we read the words found in Psalm 91:4 saying, “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
Scripture is filled with example after example of the faithfulness of God. Even though we may stumble in our faithfulness to Him, He is always steadfast in His faithfulness to us. Regardless of what we may be going through. Regardless of whatever struggle we are in. May our faithfulness to a faithful God only increase. As iron sharpens iron, may our trials temper and strengthen our faith, our hope and our trust in our Lord.
Pray that the Holy Spirit will strengthen us and build our faith.
Pray that we will face whatever the year may bring with boldness and determination to stay faithful to our faithful God.
The truth is that faith can only be proven when it is tested. Faith can only grow when it is stressed. May we remember the words of the writer in Hebrews where he reminds us that “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6) So let us please God and put a smile on His face as we demonstrate our faithfulness to Him in all that we do.
