Is It Our Plan or His?

How is today turning out for you? Hopefully everything is going well and according to plan. But the real question is this. Is our day turning out according to our own plan or God’s plan? In all reality, it is often difficult to determine whether everything is happening because of our efforts or God’s hand. If we think about it, if we are truly walking a path of faith, then our plan is God’s plan and the events that we encounter each day are in some way part of His will.

Psalm 37:23-24 tells us that “The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.”

So, if we pray each day that the Lord’s will unfolds in our lives, then although the plans we are making may seem to be our own, in many cases they are really God ordering our steps. Now this does not mean that we cannot step off of God’s path. We certainly can. But if we continue to trust in God and continue to pray that His will unfolds in our life, then we can have faith that our Lord will guide us back on to His path.

Let this be our prayer, not only today, but every day to come. “Now show me the path where I should go, O Lord; point out the right road for me to travel. Lead me; teach me; for you are the God who gives me salvation. I have no hope except for you. Overlook my youthful sins, O Lord! Look at me instead through eyes of mercy and forgiveness, through eyes of everlasting love and kindness. I ask this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.”

Unwavering faith is our ticket to seeing God’s plan unfold in our life. So let us trust in the LORD with all of our heart, and lean not on our own understanding; let us acknowledge Him in all of our ways, having faith that He will make our paths straight.

Regardless of the events that are taking place around us, we need to have faith and trust that it is all somehow part of God’s plan. Our part is to continue to seek His guidance as we journey on His path. We need to trust that if we continue to have faith in God, then He will show us the right road to travel.
