Living in the Light
There are many throughout the world who believe that Jesus did exist. They accept the possibility that He was a real person. They acknowledge that He was a kind and compassionate man who seemed to have a lot of wisdom and understanding. Some will even accept that He was a prophet. However, for a variety of reasons, they cannot allow themselves to possibly believe that He is God. They refuse to believe that He was born from a virgin and later performed incredible acts that could only be accomplished by a supernatural being. Yet, here is the real obstacle that so many find impossible to accept. That Jesus was horribly crucified on a cross and rose from the dead three days later.
Sadly, there are so many that believe there was a Jesus, yet they refuse to believe the rest of the gospel. Either consciously, or subconsciously, they know that if the rest of the story is real, then all that Jesus taught must also be real. They know that by accepting Jesus, they have to face the possibility of all the wrongs in their life.
There are many remarkable attributes about Jesus. One sign of His greatness is that He is the brightest spotlight that ever shined. If we allow Him, He will shine His light into our very soul and will reveal every nook and cranny where there is wrong in our life. Once He reveals those wrongs, then He waits to see what we will do with this new knowledge and understanding.
Jesus is also the light of God, the love of God and the Word of God. Hebrews 4:12-13 tells us, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints, and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”
God knew that everyone who truly accepted His Son into their lives would have this spotlight shining into their soul. He knew that the more they embraced Jesus, the brighter the light would shine. That is one of the reasons why God gave each of us the Holy Spirit. His Spirit was sent to help us deal with the unpleasantness of our nature and our wrong thinking that the light would reveal.
Let us be bold and courageous today in our prayers. If we are willing to draw closer to Jesus, then ask Him to shine His light into our soul and reveal those areas where He is not involved in.
Pray that He will show us the parts of our lives where we do not allow Him to live.
Then pray for the Holy Spirit to help us to overcome our pride and our selfish desires. Pray that our desire for Jesus to be a part of our entire life is greater than our desire to continue to be part of a fallen and corrupt world.
Jesus is the light of the world, just as we are also the light. Most of the world turns away from the light. Most of the world is comfortable living in darkness. May we never find comfort in the darkness and may we always live in the brilliance that is our Lord Jesus.
