Come Humbly Before God

Our God is always watching us. He is searching our hearts to see the true intent of our prayers. The Lord watches to see what we do and why we do it. He asks; are we giving our tithe out of some sense of obligation or out of love and faith, believing that God has provided all that we have and will continue providing for all of our needs? He wonders; are we serving others out of a desire to be seen or out of a desire to be an expression of the love of Jesus? He questions; do we pray out of our own selfish desires or because we know that there is a God in Heaven who loves us and has a plan for our lives?

He is even watching how we come to Him in prayer. Granted, many times we are often actively engaged in whatever it is that we are doing when we reach out to God with a prayer, yet what about those quiet times when it is just us and God?

Isn’t it interesting how Jesus always came to His Heavenly Father in a posture of sincere humility. It is that positioning of ourselves that sets the stage and opens the door for our encounter with God. Whether it is sitting at our desk with folded hands, head bowed and eyes closed or kneeling by our bed with our arms lifted high, God takes notice of this silent yet powerful communication.

We read God’s words found in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that says, “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” One thing that we truly know about God is that He is always receptive to a heart that is humble.

Let us come before God today with a humble heart. Let us acknowledge His greatness as we confess our weakness.

Let us lay our petitions at His feet and declare that we are helpless to do it all on our own. That we need God and that we need Him to be an active part of our lives.

Let us bow before the greatness of our all powerful God and place our faith in the faithfulness of our Heavenly Father.

Trust that God is moving in our lives everyday. Believe that He is orchestrating events for our benefit and that God will continue to provide for all of our needs according to His riches and glory through Christ Jesus, our Lord.

May we live today in service to our Lord and may we never forget that God cherishes a humble and contrite heart.
