The Word of God
It is fascinating to think about the power of God’s spoken word. By His word, the universe was brought into existence. From the tiniest of subatomic particles, which then became atoms, which then became molecules, which then became everything else, were all created in a fraction of a moment. Each of which was then flung into the void that then became our universe. Light came forth and planets were formed. We read six times in Genesis 1 how God spoke a word about creating something and that something then became a reality. It is remarkable to think about how everything that exists does so simply because God spoke about it and made it so.
We read the Scriptures because they are messages to us from God. We study the words that God spoke and see how His words became a reality. John 1:1-5 describes God’s Word where he says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” The Holy Spirit, through John, is telling us that Jesus IS the Word of God.
Every Christian understands that Jesus is the living Word of God. He is the absolute truth of God and His spoken words always become reality. It is impossible for Jesus’s words not to be true, because Jesus only repeated what He heard His Father instruct Him to say. Jesus tells us in John 12:49, “For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment, what to say and what to speak.” When we read the words of Jesus, we are hearing the spoken word of God.
Now think about this. If anything that Jesus said was false, then it would place everything that He said into question. It would put a justifiable doubt into the very Word of God. If there was any falsehood in anything that Jesus said, if any word spoken by God was shown to be false, then it would make all of God’s words suspect. His words would lose all of its power. In fact, if that were true, then the very power of God would be nullified and the entire universe would fly apart and cease to exist.
This is why we can safely stand on God’s spoken word. This is why we can securely anchor our faith to the everlasting power of God’s Word.
Whenever we need hope. Whenever we need comforting. Whenever we need something to anchor our faith to. We need to turn to the scriptures and see what God’s Word has to say.
Then pray on those verses that leap out to us. Declare them over our lives. Plant our faith in them and stand strong on the faithfulness of our powerful and awesome God.
The only truth that is not relative is the Word of God. The only truth that we can build our lives on is the truth spoken by Jesus, because there is no other power in this entire universe that is greater than the power of God’s spoken Word.
