Say Yes to God

There is a quiet beauty that is found only in the early hours of the morning. That time when the sun is just starting to lighten the night sky and we hear that first bird call out its morning prayers. It is a time that is filled with hope and the possibilities of new beginnings. It is during these times when our thoughts turn to our Heavenly Father and greet Him warmly at the beginning of this new day.

Jesus also loved the mornings. He would rise early, often before the others and go off by Himself and just spend some time alone with His Father. Mark 1:35 tells us, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” We can almost hear His thoughts as he reached out to God in prayer and asked, “What will you have me do today?”

When each of us prays a similar prayer every morning, we are following the example set by Jesus when He taught His disciples how to pray. He instructed them in Matthew 6:10 to place their lives into God’s hands with every prayer and say, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” God’s will is always done in heaven because He is God, and He has a multitude of angels just waiting to do whatever is asked of them. When God focuses on us, He is looking to see who among us is also waiting to do His will. It is remarkable to think that we have the power to say “No” to the Creator of everything. We also have the power to say “Yes” to that same Creator. It is very humbling to think that God Almighty placed the immense power of that choice into our failable hands. That is why it means so much to God every time we say “yes”.

Let our prayers today be prayers of submission, seeking not our will but His will be done. Let our spirit say “Yes” and “Amen” to God.

Pray that today unfolds according to His will and that the Holy Spirit continues to guide us in our every action and in our every thought.

Let us be like Jesus and the angels and live today in anticipation of being a vessel for the Father’s will. As it is done in Heaven, let it also be done here on Earth, through us.

The Fruits of the Spirit are released every time a believer says “yes” to God. Every yes brings the Kingdom of Heaven just a little bit closer to someone who needs it. Let our hearts be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and let our spirits cry out, “not my will Father, but thy will be done.”
