The Subtle Miracles of God

Many of us have heard or read the stories from the Bible of the remarkable miracles that God performed. We remember the parting of the Sea so that God’s people could cross to the other side on dry land. We read of the manna from heaven that fell each day and fed all of Israel for forty years. There are the stories of Jonah and the great fish, Sodom and Gomorrah, Jesus calming the storm and our Lord feeding the thousands from a small boy’s lunch, twice!

Each one is a tremendous display of the power of Almighty God, yet those are the exception, and not the rule of how God moves in our lives. Our God is a God of subtleties. He lines up events in such a way that the intent of His will is smoothly and seamlessly accomplished. Quite often we do not realize that it was God’s hand moving on our behalf until after the results are seen. Despite all of God’s grandeur, there is a beautiful subtlety to how He accomplishes His will.

If we truly think about it, our God performs miracles in our lives every day. We are so used to thinking about a miracle as something that is so tremendous that its very presence can only be attributed to God. Although that is certainly true, we tend to overlook the subtle miracles that occur in our lives.

The terrible accident that was miraculously avoided. The unexpected meeting that produced a wonderful result. The much needed funds that unexpectedly arrived. The list goes on. Yet, the truth is that we all have experienced God’s subtle miracles in our lives many times. Often without giving God the glory.

Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”

The truth is that when we finally stand before our Lord and look back on our lives, we will clearly see all of the times that God moved His hand on our behalf. The job opportunities that He orchestrated, the divine appointments that affected our lives or the lives of someone else, every accident that was avoided while we drove from here to there or dangerous situations that we never experienced because God redirected our steps.

Here is another truth. We pray because we are seeking divine intervention for a problem or a situation. We are asking God to do something that we are powerless to do on our own. So, if that is true, then that would mean that every answered prayer is a miracle that has occurred in our lives. So essentially, anytime that God moves His hand, He is performing an act that can only be attributed to Him. He is, in essence, performing a miracle.

When we pray, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the subtle miracles that God performs in our life each day.

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the subtle move of God’s hand and to help us to appreciate God’s expression of love through His daily miracles.

The truth is that our God is a God of subtleties. He sets events in motion that will achieve His desired results in the days, weeks, months, and even years to come. He is also a worker of daily miracles. Some of His miracles are grand, to be sure, but most are not even realized as a miracle. Look closely and we too will see the miracles that He has performed and those that are now happening in our life.
