Seasons Within Seasons

We talk a lot about seasons in these daily devotionals. Because the truth is that regardless of what we are going through, we know that the season we are in will only last for so long. Then it ends and another season begins. But, how many of us have thought about the truth that our life is built on seasons within seasons.

On the macro scale, our entire life is one huge season that is filled with ebbs and flows. Each ebb and each flow is a season on to itself. Within this season are three smaller seasons consisting of our youth, our adulthood and our twilight years.

Then, within those three seasons are other seasons consisting of marriage, raising children, building a career, being grandparents, retirement, and so on. Further down we can see that each of these seasons also contain smaller seasons made up of our successes, our failures, our struggles and our challenges.

The point to all of this is understanding that seasons are just a natural part of our life. They have a beginning, a middle and an ending. Our part is to realize that every season ends and that we are to make the most of whatever it is we are going through while we are immersed in that particular season. Whether good, bad or ugly, God’s purpose for each season is to test our faith and to draw us closer to Jesus.

Proverbs 3:3-10 tells us to, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”

These verses are the roadmap that our Heavenly Father has provided to help us successfully navigate every season of our life. Sadly, we all have fallen short of this intended goal. However it is not too late, because if we think about it, we are all in the middle of a season right now. Please reread the verses in Proverbs 3:3-10, embrace its words of wisdom and draw closer to Jesus.

Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will speak to our hearts and will guide us through whatever season we are in.

Pray that as we build our testimony, we are honoring our God through our words and our deeds.

Then let us pray that regardless of the struggle or challenge we are facing, we remember that it is only for a season and that this season will end.

There is actually a way to shorten any difficult season, and in the same sense, a way to lengthen a season that is going well, and that is to walk every step of the journey hand in hand with Jesus. Each day we are to rely on God for our strength, wisdom, guidance and provision. As it says in the passage above, we are to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding; in all our ways submit to Him, and He will make our paths straight.
